Landscape

The approach to landscape often starts with the close-up textures and tangle of the Australian bush. The eucalyptus is extremely untidy in its habits and the resulting mess that litters the bush – fallen trees, branches and leaves, all in varying stages of decay – is a constant reminder of nature regenerating herself.
The broad landscapes deal with that part of Australia familiar to me since childhood — hills and rivers that I explored when fishing with my father. These subjects are interpreted by evoking the distinctive quality of light and the richly textured patterns unique to Australia.
My current work attempts to combine both these extremes in which the changing effects of light, usually in late afternoon, are viewed through trees and the incredible patterns of their branches.
