The Burraga district south of Bathurst is typified by the country shown in this print. The original pastel was from an exhibition in which each painting was identified by Topographical map coordinates, in this case Burraga 39E44N. Thus the location that inspired the image is recorded in its title.
This large pastel is 138×95 cms and was painted in one frenzied sitting finishing about 4 a.m. The resulting enegry of the pastel marks echoes the rugged landscape.
