Portraits, or the portrayal of the human figure, do not appear regularly in my work. Instead, inherent in my disposition is an impulse to search for a deeper understanding of my surroundings — especially in the etherial qualities to be found in the landscape.
However, shown here is a selection of non-commissioned portraits, usually of friends and family, where I engage with the subject at a more private level. In addition, part of my interest in history is the exploration of the human figure symbolised in Medieval, Renaissance or Indian religious sculpture.
Artists of influence are Hans Holbein the Younger, Rembrandt and Degas.
